Dioramas are an old technique of exhibiting. With models, films, light and sound effects a miniature world is created. We used this medium to explore the content and the theme of Bruegel’s enigmatic painting 'The Battle between Carnival and Lent'. Six dioramas are presented in separate viewing boxes. The shape of the viewing box invites the spectator to step in the world of Bruegel and focus on the display. The visual spectacle, different in every box, has been developed in collaboration with several artists. Two among them worked with film. To appeal to young and old, the short films employs a humorous approach to the subject matter. (3'38")
The collaborating artists are Mila Chorbadzhieva, Pieter Janssens, Poussins Studios (Marine Boey en Fred Meeuwens), Adriaan de Man, Bob Takes and director Hans Buyse.
